Journalists are invited to apply for one of seven scholarships to audit News Media and the Courts in Canada, a 13-week evening course offered at the School of Journalism, University of King’s College, beginning Jan. 8, 2007.

The course examines defamation law, publication bans, contempt of court and other legal restrictions on journalists, as well as how the justice system operates and how journalists can improve coverage of justice issues.

The scholarship, supported by a grant from the Law Foundation of Nova Scotia, covers the audit fee and the cost of the textbook. The instructor is Christine Doucet, a lawyer and former journalist.
