Media group Progress Corp. sold Halifax Magazine to Metro Guide Publishing in March.
Editor-in-Chief Graeme Gunn didn’t know the sale was coming and assumes it was for business reasons.
“Personally, I’m disappointed,” says Gunn. “I was hoping it would grow. It was really starting to find its audience.”
Metro Publishing has replaced the magazine’s entire staff. Gunn says he and other former Halifax Magazine editors are working with other Progress publications.
Christine White, a communications and marketing manager with Metro Guide, says the move is a good one for Halifax Magazine.
“Progress deals with business, and Metro has more consumer publications. It’s a good place for the magazine to focus on the Halifax community.”
White says the purchase was amicable, and that Metro is very excited to start publishing the magazine. “We have changed it up,” says White. “We’re implementing a new business section that will profile people in the city.”
Metro Guide’s first edition of Halifax Magazine will be released in April.
