The Atlantic Magazines Association is teaming up with Magazines Canada to put on a day-long conference in Halifax next month.

On Wednesday, December 10th students and professionals in the magazine industry will converge at Dalhousie University to gain insider tips from design and advertising pros, Dave Donald and Gwen Dunant.  Donald has done design work for such magazines as This and POV and Dunant has 15 years of experience working in sales for Toronto Life magazine.

The two workshops – magazine design and advertising sales – will run concurrently on the morning of the conference. In the afternoon, magazine writers will get a chance to pitch their ideas and gain feedback from people in the industry.

“This is the first conference of its kind in Nova Scotia” says Paulette Dunn of the Atlantic Magazines Association who is coordinating the conference.  “People in the magazine community were telling us this is what they wanted to see.”

Dunn is hoping to get about fifty people out to the conference.  “It’s a good number to begin with,” she says.

The Atlantic Magazine Association will be putting on a similar conference in New Brunswick the following day and a third one is scheduled for Newfoundland in January.

The Atlantic Magazines Association represents 54 magazine publishers in Atlantic Canada.
